Art Club Calendar: Seth Price, January 25th

Who’s seen Seth Price’s new show at Friedrich Petzel Gallery? I haven’t but based on the videos on his youtube channel now on view at the gallery I plan to make a trip. I also want to talk about it, so here’s the plan: Tuesday January 25th I post a few pictures and questions about the show and we discuss. That gives everyone a chance to see the work and think about it. Want to chose the next show we discuss? Post suggestions in the comments and we’ll run a poll. Readers are not allowed to table their own show for discussion.

Younger artists typically don’t have enough work to produce the varied shows I’d like to see, and with the pervasive hype of youth culture these days, it’s mid-career artists who need the support. I also excluded artists who I assume will receive a solo museum show within the next five years with or without my mention; Dana Schutz and R.H. Quaytman fit this bill. For the rest, I looked for good work that I’d like to see receive more attention. Find out who’s on the list.

The Apocalypse Isn’t So Bad

It took me two hours to write a Pussy Faggot paragraph this morning because I have the sort of hangover only the alumni of Cranbrook could help create. I blame academy graduates Jennifer Catron and Paul Outlaw‘s “feast for an apocalypse” at Allegra LaViola Gallery for this, though like any burgeoning alcoholic I also woke up thinking [...]
