Sotheby's Institute of Art offers insight into the international art
world through its Short Courses and Continuing Education in London and New
York. Designed for those wishing to strengthen their existing experience,
as well as those pursuing a passion for the arts, these courses provide
unique opportunities to gain professional skills and practical knowledge
about a variety of art-related topics, such as art law and finance, the
contemporary art market, and much more. Courses are offered during the day

London Sample Course:
Frieze
Art Fair Dates: 10–12 October Time: 10–5pm This annual three-day short course coincides with the international
Frieze Art Fair in London focusing on contemporary art, the art market and
collecting.
New York Sample Courses:
The Value of Art Dates: November 1–2 Time: 6–8pm Thursday, 10–3pm Friday Learn the principles
behind different art acquisition strategies, ranging from investment to
connoisseurship, and the important decisions that need to be made at each
stage.
Contemporary Art at Auction: An Insider's View Dates: November 12–13 Time: 9:30–4:30pm Join us
for an exclusive view of the fall contemporary art auctions in New York,
with behind-the-scenes access to the sales and the specialists, and a
chance to preview artwork and analyze the market.
Introduction to Art as a Global Business Dates: October
16, 23, 30 / November 13, 20, 27 Time: 6:30–8pm Examine the fundamental structures within the art world, and the people,
institutions and commercial entities through which art flows, to understand
more fully how the art market operates.
Collecting
Contemporary Prints Dates: October 16, 23, 30 / November 13,
20, 27 Time: 6:30–8pm Learn how to easily distinguish
between the various types of printmaking processes and develop a discerning
eye for high quality prints.
