The Rundgang at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) presents
work from around 150 students from the graduate and postgraduate "Media and
Fine Art" courses. The exhibition shows young artistic positions and
contemporary processes, including numerous degree projects from the fields
of visual arts, media art, film and video, sound, performance, scenography
as well as neighbouring and overlapping disciplines. Site-specific works
and installations created especially for the Rundgang will be
complemented by studies and experiments from the laboratories and
workshops—such as the animation studio or the Lab3: laboratory for
experimental computer sciences—who will open their doors to the
Rundgang allowing insights into their working methods. In the
OpenLab-Jam, students present performances, live actions, musical jams,
video remixing etc. on an open stage. The exhibition space stretches across
various rooms on the KHM campus: the neighbouring Trinitatiskirche, the
library/media centre, the ateliers, studios, workshops, and laboratories
all along Filzengraben and right down to Peter-Welter-Platz.
A
comprehensive film programme presents 44 student films in 14 different
blocks in the auditorium cinema, as well as 10 seminar exercises from the
fields of feature and documentary film, essay and animation, experimental
film and camera. The programme blocks begin at 2, 4, 6, and 8pm and will be
moderated by professors and staff members and include discussions with the
directors of the films. A total of 18 graduation films will be shown in the
evening blocks.
The highlight of the opening of the
Rundgang on Thursday, July 12 at 6pm, is the presentation of The
Friends of the KHM e.V. scholarship (worth 7,000 Euro) and the Equal
Opportunities prize (worth 3,500 Euro) for special artistic achievements.
During the Rundgang the KHM will provide information on courses and
offer guided tours through the exhibition and the academy from the info
point at Filzengraben 2.
