During the weekend of Friday 30 November, Saturday 1 and Sunday 2
December 2012, Amsterdam Art Weekend will give you the opportunity
to explore Amsterdam's lively contemporary art scene. The rich programme of
events varies from special exhibitions—hosted by 27 leading galleries
in their own venues—to open studios in well-known international art
institutes. The Amsterdam Art Weekend, organised by Capital A and in
collaboration with RijksakademieOPEN, will demonstrate how much inspiration
and talent Amsterdam has to offer in the field of contemporary art.
During RijksakademieOPEN 2012 the 56 resident artists of the
Rijksakademie present new work in their studios and offer a view on the
future of art.

Capital A Foundation Amsterdam Art Weekend is
organized by the Capital A Foundation, established in 2011 by
representatives of Amsterdam's art world, including the Rijksakademie van
beeldende kunsten, various Amsterdam galleries, and a number of
private collectors. Capital A's objective is to highlight Amsterdam's role
as a springboard for talented young and international artists, to promote
the city as a national and international hub of creative exchange, and to
attrack widespread interest for contemporary arts.
Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten Every year, the
Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (est. 1870) selects some 25 artists
from all over the world out of a total of more than 1,500 applications. The
two-year residency programme located within the walls of the former
Kavallerie-Kazerne (Cavalry Barracks) provides the artists with individual
workshops, as well as technical, artistic, and theoretical facilities and
support.
