On 20, 21 and 22 September Madrid will once again become the hub of
contemporary art. The city will be staging the APERTURA 2012 event both in
the daytime and at night, with almost fifty contemporary art galleries
simultaneously inaugurating their exhibitions. Furthermore, a comprehensive
programme of activities in museums and art centres will boost Spanish
plastic creation and the cultural industries on both a national and
international scale to complete the city's offering.
The third
edition of APERTURA, organised by the Association of Galleries
Arte_Madrid, will attract collectors, experts and curators from all
over the world. In Madrid they will find the greatest wellspring of artists
and exhibitions.
Shows on established figures such as Eduardo
Chillida, Donald Judd, José María Sicilia
or Zaha Hadid are combined with solo exhibitions by European artists
such as Günther Förg or Spanish ones like Alberto
García Alix, Miki Leal, Jonathan Hernández and Juan
Asensio. Art lovers will also be able to enjoy the creations of the
Latin American artists David Lamelas and José
Dávila, among others.
The general public will enjoy
long opening hours in the galleries and sign up to another of this
edition's novelties: the ARCO GALLERY Walks. A guided tour will
be taken each day around the districts in which the galleries congregate in
order to gain a detailed view of the spaces and exhibitions.
The
programme of activities will be completed with visits to the homes of
gallerists, a private viewing of the collection of the Museo Nacional
Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the collection of the Fundación
Banco Santander, social events, brunches at the galleries, talks and
screenings.
