Absolut Art Bureau, the unit responsible for Absolut’s art
initiatives, is pleased to announce a collaboration with Art Basel for the
next three years, starting this year with its support of the 43rd edition
of Art Basel as Associate Sponsor and as Presenting Partner of Art Basel
Conversations. Absolut Art Bureau shares Art Basel’s passion for
bringing people together around art and is thrilled to contribute to the
world’s leading platform for creative talent.
Absolut Art Bureau at Art Basel 14–17 June 2012
As Presenting Partner of Art Basel Conversations, Art Basel’s
talks program, Absolut Art Bureau will be supporting discourse and the
sharing of ideas. Art Basel Conversations is a lively forum with
programming ranging from artists talking through their practice to larger
panels featuring collectors, museum directors, architects, curators,
critics, gallery directors and publishers. Engaging in discussion and
debate, these speakers provide both an insider’s view of the art
world and the opportunity for dynamic and inspiring
dialogue. Professionally edited Art Basel Conversations segments will
be archived on both the Absolut Art Bureau and Art Basel websites.
All talks take place at Art Basel's auditorium in Hall 1,
10–11am. For the full program please visit www.artbasel.com

The Kirlian, a bar by Jeremy Shaw for Absolut 10–16 June 2012
Absolut Art Bureau gave artist
Jeremy Shaw carte blanche to conceptualize a fully operational bar
to act as a unique place of conviviality, at Volkshaus No.5, The Gallery,
just minutes from the fair. The result is a bar informed in equal parts by
Shaw’s deep background in music and his interest in Kirlian
photography, an outmoded photographic technique that captures the magnetic
field, or presumably the emotional aura, of both inanimate objects and
living things. The Kirlian will be a space full of hidden potentials,
specifically soundtracked for daytime unwinding, evening socializing, and
nighttime dancing. Shaw’s interest and explorations of the
unseen have deeply informed his selection of an ambitious music program,
showcasing artists ranging from obscure new wave DJs (Veronica Vasicka), to
legendary cult television stars (Twin Peaks chanteuse Julee Cruise). For
the full bar program please visit www.absolutartbureau/thekirlian.
These themes of the unseen will also be reflected in the cocktails
served, which will feature ‘invisible’ flavors subtly mixed
into unique, alchemical combinations.
